What Educators Are Saying...

LARA SCARINGELLA | ESL Teacher/Coordinator, NY

"I am so thankful for the skills, knowledge and experience I have gained through the ISTE certification course taught by you and this certification process. It has helped me to assist students and other teachers to get through this particularly difficult transition to Remote Learning here in NYC."

Two-Phase Certification Program

ISTE has updated the Certified Educator program, it is fully online and now consists of two phases. Participants must complete both phases in order to earn their certification. Certification is open to all educators—teachers, curriculum coaches, library media specialists, principals etc. Certification is valid for three years.

Phase 1: Complete Online Course

14 weeks

The course is hosted in Brightspace, ISTE’s LMS. Participants have two weeks from when the course opens to complete the assigned pre-work. Participants then attend five two-hour synchronous Zoom sessions. Synchronous sessions are scheduled two weeks apart and full attendance is required for all sessions. There are three weeks between the final synchronous session and the course end date, when all work must be submitted. Participants must earn an 80% in the course overall in order to move to the portfolio phase.

Phase 2: Built Your Portfolio

6 months

Participants submit artifacts as evidence of competency for 24 criteria and also a personal reflection. Participants are provided with an Alignment Map template to complete, as well as an Applicant Guide, Criteria Guidelines, and artifact exemplars. Participants have six months to complete the portfolio, but are strongly encouraged to complete it as soon as possible after completion of the online course. Participants pass this phase and earn their ISTE Certified Educator status by earning 20 out of 25 total points. Portfolios are evaluated by ISTE staff.
