Sonia Rodrigues-Marto, LPC, LMFT, LCADC, NCC, ACS is a highly experienced clinician, leader, and advocate with more than 20 years of expertise in school-based mental health. She serves as the Senior Director of School and Community-Based Programs at Rutgers Health – University Behavioral Health Care, where she oversees professional development initiatives and intensive mental health services for youth and families across public, private, and out-of-district school settings.

A Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor, National Certified Counselor, and Approved Clinical Supervisor, Sonia brings a comprehensive and systems-oriented approach to her work. Throughout her career, she has been dedicated to expanding access to high-quality mental health services for children, adolescents, and families—particularly those in underserved and historically marginalized communities.

In addition to her leadership role, Sonia maintains a private practice working with adolescents and adults. She is a passionate advocate for children and families living in impoverished communities, immigrants, the Latinx community, and women and children who have experienced trauma. Her clinical expertise includes trauma-informed care, suicide risk assessment, non-suicidal self-injury, stress and anxiety in adolescents, and supporting survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence.

Sonia has successfully written and secured multiple grants aimed at expanding school-based mental health services and strengthening community partnerships. She serves on several school and nonprofit boards dedicated to improving outcomes for youth and families.

A sought-after presenter and trainer, Sonia has delivered workshops on topics including teen stress and anxiety, integrating mindfulness practices in schools, suicide risk assessment, supporting youth in a post-COVID world, clinical implications for working with Latinx youth and families, and best practices for supporting immigrant students in educational settings.
