Hannah Marcus - Eating Disorder Early Detection and Support for Adolescents with Eating Disorders
This presentation equips educators with essential knowledge and practical strategies to recognize and respond to eating disorders among children and adolescents. Participants will learn to distinguish between the four most common eating disorders affecting youth: Anorexia nervosa, Bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID). The session highlights early symptoms, behavioral and emotional warning signs, and risk factors that may appear in school settings. Educators will also explore how language, classroom culture, and supportive relationships can either reduce stigma or unintentionally cause harm. Emphasis is placed on fostering a safe, inclusive, and nonjudgmental environment where students feel comfortable seeking help.
